Why The Resident Alien?

Why The Resident Alien?

Understanding why I chose this name for my blog goes a long way in understanding who I am as a person.

Because I’m the OG

Original Geek, that is.  I go way back with a love for all things sci-fi.  When I was a kid, I looked forward to watching Star Trek (the original series) every day after school.  Back then (and maybe now), I could tell you the entire synopsis of every episode within the first 30 seconds of the start.  Captain Kirk and Spock were (and still are) my favorite characters of all time.  I wanted so much to look like Yeoman Janice Rand (with her cool I Dream of Jeannie hair) and I wanted to be a smart, strong woman like Uhura.  I wanted to explore the galaxy, play multi-level chess and eat food from a replicator, not to mention talk to people on my communicator (which I had), stun undesirables with my phaser and get beamed up by Scotty (because you couldn’t trust anyone else).  Fast forward a few years and defying the space time continuum, I’ve watched almost every Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate and X-Files ever made many times over.  I will still watch almost anything that seems even remotely good that has a space theme and, just for the record, I think Galaxy Quest is quite funny.  I am and always will be The Original [Sci-fi] Geek.

Because the Bible Tells Me So

I am a resident of the State of Oklahoma and a citizen of the United States of America.  Since I was born in the United States, I am entitled to its protection and privileges, as well as responsible to contribute to its society (obey laws, pay taxes, etc.).  As a resident of Oklahoma, I fall under an additional set of laws and additional responsibilities.  However, I am free to roam the United States as a citizen and become a resident of any state I choose.

Similarly, the day I committed my life to Christ, I was granted citizenship in the Kingdom of God.  However, as long I remain on this earth, I am but a resident of this world.  There is no dual citizenship – each of us is either a citizen of this world or of the Kingdom of God.  As a citizen of God’s Kingdom, we are entitled to his protection, as well as the rights, privileges, and responsibilities thereof.

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ (Phi 3:20).

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household (Eph 2:19)

In The Resident Alien, I will explore what it means to live as a resident in this world as a citizen of the Kingdom.
