About Me, Dena Herring

About Me, Dena Herring

First and foremost, I am proud and yet deeply humbled to be a follower and disciple of Jesus Christ.  As a child, I was raised sometimes in, but mostly around, the church.  It wasn’t until I was in premarital counseling in my early thirties that I chose to fully commit my life to Christ.  It’s been quite the ride since then.

I have been married to Jeff for 20 years this fall (2019).  We have three boys ages 17, 15 and 13, plus I have a daughter that is 26 years old.  We homeschool our three boys.  Expect to see blogs that detail my life as a Christian woman, wife and mother.  After all, isn’t that what we all want to know — How to live out the Christian life on a daily basis?  I invite you to share the journey with me.

I have B.A. in Applied Christian Ministry from Oklahoma Baptist University (Go Bison!!) with a minor in Christian Apologetics.  I consider myself an apologist with a deep interest in theology whose quest is to find truth wherever it may be found.  My desire is to strengthen the Church and build up individuals so that they can share their beliefs and defend the faith with confidence.  Apologetics and theology aren’t only for the pastor or seminary professor — even children can understand and apply basic theological principles when rightly explained and presented.  I like to make difficult things simple — cut to the chase as my grandmother would say.

I feel compelled to write this blog because it is my sincerest belief that one of the main purposes of the Church, the body of Christ, is to provide support and to strengthen one another through this journey of life.  I also write in hopes that someone who is not currently a believer in the redemptive power of Jesus Christ will read something I have written and come to saving faith in Christ, for he is the only way, the only truth and the only life.  I do not claim to be an expert on anything except my own life and experiences – and even then I don’t always see through the glass clearly.

I will endeavor to be as transparent and authentic as possible in my posts.  However, I am still by nature a sinner and I continually fall short of the glory of God.  There are many things that I would like to keep just between me and God; therefore, I will not publicly address every aspect of my life in this forum.  Please do not consider this a false representation of the person you meet here but, rather, a way for me to maintain my dignity because I intimately know this person that Jesus is in the process of conforming to his image.  If for some odd reason you might be tempted to think that I have it all together, believe me, I don’t.  I’ve discovered that the longer I’m on this journey with Christ, the closer to his image I become, but the closer to his image I become, the more I see how far I am away from his perfection.

My hope is that you, the reader, will see yourself in this blog and be comforted, encouraged, inspired, educated, and most of all led to think deeply about what it means to walk in the Way of Jesus Christ.

One final warning:  I have a sarcastic, dry sense of humor.  I am also a very southern Texan who lives in Oklahoma.  I hate to offend anyone, yet I am very direct.  I am not easily offended myself, so I am frequently oblivious to the offense of others.  I am not a mean-spirited person and I do not wish to hurt anyone’s feelings, but tact is not my spiritual gift.  Please read my posts accordingly.
