DNA Points to God

DNA Points to God

I will begin with this:  I simply do not understand the complexities of DNA or how it works, so this post will be super simplistic.  What I do know is that DNA is so extremely complex that it cannot possibly be a result of random chance.  In fact, DNA has been likened to extremely complicated computer programming. So complicated in fact, that it cannot be replicated.  Here goes.

According to https://www.yourgenome.org/facts/what-is-dna “DNA or deoxyribonucleic acid is a long molecule that contains our unique genetic code. Like a recipe book it holds the instructions for making all the proteins in our bodies.”  Basically, DNA is the code or blueprint that determines how creatures, including humans, are constructed and function. DNA is self-replicating. This process involves many biological chemical helpers, the unwinding of the DNA strands, making of new complementary strands, and then rewinding the new molecules into two genetically identical daughter cells.  The entire process is enormously complex to say the least and that is just part of the replication process.  It would take multiple pages to describe how it is constructed and how it works even in the simplest of terms.

DNA is pretty cool.  So cool that it leads us to one very important question, “If living cells are constructed and operated by DNA, and new DNA comes from self-replication, then where did the very first DNA molecule come from?  Melissa Travis notes that there are two probable causes for DNA: either it comes from a blind chain of events or a goal-directed design of a Maker. In light of current research and based upon what is known about biochemistry, it is most “sensible to conclude that there is a Mind whose intent was for living things to appear at a certain time in a certain place on earth.”  In other words, DNA points to a Creator.

Now, I realize this is an extremely brief apologetic and lacks the detail that many people would like.  Since I am not a science-y person and I really don’t understand the workings of DNA, you will have to look elsewhere for those details.  I highly recommend Melissa Travis’ book for a great non-technical explanation (see additional reading below).

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”  Gen 1:1

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.  In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”  John 1:1-5
